Your Website Has Launched, Now What?

After several weeks or even months of hard work and collaboration, your website is finally complete.  Now begins the real work - generating traffic to it.  Here are a few things you can do to help with your efforts.

Post regularly.

One thing you must commit to for the long haul, if you ever hope to build traffic to your website, is regularly posting content to your site.  At I minimum, I would recommend posting weekly, but three to five times per week is probably closer to ideal.  The more often you post, the faster you'll reach your traffic goals.

Focus on keywords.

It's important that your content focus on keywords that are relevant to your business and site.  In other words, just posting rants or ramblings isn't going to cut it.  Your efforts have to be calculated and targeted to your ideal client or customer.  Think about the search terms prospects are likely to use when searching for your type of services, products, and content, and then build posts around those keywords.

Use tags and categories.

Tags and categories can help you with search engines, so take advantage of them.  Label each post with relevant tags, and use categories to organize your site into broad sections or subject areas.

Partner up with similar sites.

Find other businesses that complement your own and then partner up.  Exchange posts, exchange comments, and ultimately, you'll exchange traffic.

Spread the word.

Use social media and networking sites (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) to share links to your posts, remembering to use keywords to describe the content, since users often search for particular content they need when using these services.

Get involved.

Find networks that offer support to your ideal client and then participate in discussions there.  Be sure to thoroughly complete your profiles at such networks, since other members will likely check it out when you contribute something that helps or interests them.
